In the Casa del Bambino in Padua we found high quality health care, a deep, personal commitment by every worker and the great gift of being able to live near Eleonora during her treatments. Today we are supporting it in a direct way, so that the same shall be true for those who will come after us.
The “Casa del Bambino” is an intermediate structure which is part of the care network for sick children: it is an alternative to the hospital and, in some cases, even to the child’s own home. The main goal of “Casa del Bambino” is to guarantee quality assistance to meet the totality of the needs of the child and his/her family. The Hospice welcomes children with oncological diseases, complex heart diseases, genetic diseases, all diseases that require a multidisciplinary approach (doctors, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, specialized consultants…) which can improve the quality of life for the child and his/her family through professional and humane assistance aimed at physical and emotional symptoms control. Palliative care addresses a wide range of diseases, most of the time rare ones: through the years, a greater competence in the field of certain diseases has grown. These are:
Ondine’s Curse (congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS))
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) types I-II-III
Muscular Dystrophy
For these diseases the structure offers follow-up courses, with therapist supervision and arranged multidisciplinary programs. “Casa del Bambino”, therefore, in many clinical cases becomes a structure capable of offering a valuable regular clinical assessment service in a more comfortable setting than an ordinary hospital room, as well as specific professional medical assistance.
